Round robin play wrapped up this evening in the women’s section, while the men’s double round robin concludes with tomorrow’s 10 am draw at the O’Connor Glass Provincial 17 and Under Curling Championship at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside. The top two men’s teams advance to a sudden death final, while the top two women’s rinks advance to a best two out of three championship round.
In the four team men’s section, the Tony Nabuurs foursome from Montague have perfect 5-0 records, followed closely by the Matthew MacLean rink from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary, at 4-1. The two teams play each other Sunday morning, but no matter what happens, these two rinks will advance to the final, at 10 am Monday, as the other two teams are far behind, with Brooks Roche of Montague at 1-4, and Alex MacFadyen of the host club 0-5. Nabuurs beat MacLean 6-4 in their first encounter on Friday.
At the end of the round robin, the Veronica Smith rink from Cornwall are perfect at 5-0 on the women’s side, followed by the Jenny McLean team from the Silver Fox at 4-1. These teams will advance to the best of three. Carolyn Rose of Montague finished at 3-2, while Emily Keen of Charlottetown is 2-3, Rachel O’Connor of Cornwall is 1-4, and Emily Hennessey of Charlottetown is 0-5.
The first game of the women’s best of three final series goes Sunday evening at 7:30, with the second one Monday at 10 am and the third game, if needed, scheduled for 2:30 pm on Monday.
The winning teams advance to the Atlantic Under 18 Curling Championships, April 6-8 at the Bluenose Curling Club in New Glasgow NS.
