Montague’s June Moyaert edged A final winner Shirley Berry of Cornwall and Charlottetown by a 7-6 score in the 11 am draw today to win the B section of the triple knockout Credit Unions of PEI Provincial Senior Women’s Curling Championship at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. Moyaert, aided greatly by a six-ender, then went on to beat Cornwall’s Debbie Rhodenizer by a 12-8 score in the C semi-finals at 4 pm, while Berry lost to Paula Baglole of Summerside’s Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club, 8-7 in an extra end, in the other semi. Moyaert and Baglole now square off in the C final, Monday at 10 am.
A section winner Berry, B section winner Moyaert, and the C winner will then advance to the two game championship round, Monday at 3 pm and Tuesday at 2 pm. If Moyaert were to win the C flight, she would play in both championship games, and win the title if she took either.
The Senior Women’s champions will join the Senior Men’s winners, the Charlie Wilkinson foursome from Charlottetown, at the Canadian Seniors, March 17-25 in Abbotsford BC.
