The Provincial Mixed Curling Championship gets underway Friday at 6 pm at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, with eight teams from 5 Island curling clubs taking part. A ninth entry, of Rod and Karen, and Peter and Karen MacDonald, will not be competing, due to the death of Rod and Peter’s mother, Kay, and the draw and schedule has consequently been revised to accommodate this.
There will be a new champion this year, as last year’s winning rink of Brett Gallant, Erin Carmody, Anson Carmody, and Michelle Mackie are not taking part (Erin Carmody curled in Alberta this season, with the Crystal Webster team, and Gallant is in the CIS/CCA University Championships this weekend). The 2011 winning team of Robert Campbell, Rebecca Jean MacDonald, Robbie Doherty, and Jackie Reid of the Charlottetown Curling Club, who went on to win the Canadian championship are back again this year. The winning rink from this event will advance to the Canadian Mixed, November 15-24, 2012 at the Town of Mount Royal Curling Club in Montreal.

The teams will play a modified double knockout format beginning Friday at 6 pm, continuing Saturday and Sunday with draws at 11 am and 4 pm, and, unless the same team wins both A and B sections of the double knockout (at which time they would be declared the champion), concluding with the final at 1 pm on Monday.
