Montague’s Richards rink wins PEI Mixed A section

The Montague Curling Club rink of Larry Richards, Tammy Dewar, Cody Dixon, and Gail Greene won the A section of the Provincial Mixed Curling Championship this afternoon at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, edging two-time Canadian Mixed champion Robert Campbell by a 7-6 score to win the first of the two sections in this double-knockout event. The other games in the 4 pm draw were close as well, with Don Sheidow of Charlottetown eliminating Corey Miller of the host club 8-7 in an extra end, and Blair Weeks from Charlottetown and Montague sending Charlottetown’s Kyle Stevenson home with a 6-5 victory. Eliminated in the morning draw with 0-2 records were Bill Hope and his combined Cornwall/Western team, who lost 10-6 to Stevenson, and Blair Jay of Summerside, who was beaten 8-6 by Miller.

Sunday morning at 11, Campbell takes on Weeks, and Richards takes on Sheidow, with the winners advancing to the 4 pm B final. If Richards is in that game and wins it, he will take the championship. If not, the championship game between Richards and the B final winner will take place Monday at 1 pm, with the winner advancing to the Canadian Mixed, November 15-24, 2012 at the Town of Mount Royal Curling Club in Montreal.
