The final for the 2012 Provincial Mixed Curling Championship takes place on Monday at 1 pm at the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside. The Larry Richards rink from the Montague Curling Club won the A section final of this double-knockout event with a 7-6 win over two-time Canadian Mixed champ Robert Campbell and his Charlottetown Curling Club rink on Saturday, while Campbell, aided by a four point sixth end, beat Richards 7-4 in the B final on Sunday afternoon to set up tomorrow’s sudden death championship game between the two teams. Other members of the Richards rink are Tammy Dewar, Cody Dixon, and Gail Greene, while Rebecca Jean MacDonald, Robbie Doherty, and Jackie Reid round out the Campbell foursome, winners of the 2011 Canadian Mixed. Campbell also won the Canadian Mixed title back in 1989.
On Sunday morning, the Campbell rink foursome beat Charlottetown and Montague’s Blair Weeks team 9-7, while Richards downed Charlottetown’s Don Sheidow 9-5, to advance the two teams to the B final.
The winning team from this year’s PEI Mixed Championship will advance to the 2013 Canadian Mixed, November 15-24, 2012 at the Town of Mount Royal Curling Club in Montreal.
