Winnipeg’s Cathy Overton-Clapham was part of three of those championships with the Jones team, but is now skipping her own rink. She got off to a great start through four ends Tuesday, building a 6-1 lead against Eve Muirhead. The Scottish skip battled back to force an extra end, but after giving up three straight stolen single points, Overton-Clapham was able to score the winning point with hammer to pull out a 7-6 victory.

In other opening draw action, Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni upset 2012 Canadian champion Heather Nedohin of Edmonton 3-2 and Sherry Middaugh of Coldwater, Ont., doubled up Chelsea Carey of Morden, Man., 6-3.
