Summerside’s Sarah “Sally” Mae Basler, who played second on the Betty Linkletter rink, and, along with third Irene Silliphant, and lead Frances Henthorn, won three consecutive provincial women’s curling championships in 1952 through 1954, passed away on Saturday at the age of 97. Basler also served as Ladies President of the Summerside Curling Club in 1957-58, and vice-president of the PEI Ladies Curling Association during the 1962-63 season.
Basler is perhaps even better known in golfing circles, where she was a former owner and longtime supporter of the Summerside Golf and Country Club, which, for 24 years, ending in 2010, was the site of the Sally Basler Atlantic Canada Senior Open. Click for more in the Journal-Pioneer.
