After opening with a pair of victories, the Brad Gushue rink suffered their first lost this afternoon at the Baden Masters in Switzerland, ending up on the wrong side of an 8-4 decision to Rasmus Stjerne of Denmark. The Danes picked up a triple in the opening end, and maintained their lead throughout the game.
Earlier in the day, the St. John’s rink, which includes PEI natives Brett Gallant and Adam Casey recorded a 7-6 extra end win over Mark Pfister of Switzerland and an 8-5 victory over Alexsey Tselousov of Moscow, Russia, picking up 4 points in the third end on the way to that win.
Team Gushue wraps up round robin play on Saturday at 9 am Atlantic against Bernhard Werthemann and his Swiss rink.
The event, which wraps up Sunday, is the first of the year on the men’s World Curling Tour, with a total purse of almost $30,000 Cdn. The Team Gushue roster has Casey playing third, Gallant second, and Geoff Walker at lead. Team Gushue are the only Canadian rink in the event.
