Two PEI curling teams won bronze medals at the Canada 55+ Games, which wrapped up on Sept. 1 in Sydney Cape Breton. PEI finished 8th overall with 9 gold, 11 silver, and 8 bronze medals.
Silver Fox members Don Duffenais (skip), Paul Matheson, Jim Evans, and Ralph Yeo took home the bronze in the 55+ men’s, while Western’s Leslie Hardy (skip), Audrey Callaghan, Walter Callaghan, and Kathy Johnson received the 65+ mixed bronze.
As well, members of the Cornwall Curling Club won a gold and two silver medals, but in the sport of bocce. Gloria Clarke and Elaine Hughes took gold in the 55+ bocce doubles, while Ernie Stavert and Diane Farquharson brought home the silver. All four of them teamed up to win another silver, in the 55+ bocce fours.
Eleven provinces and territories took part in the four day event, with Alberta coming first overall, with 113 medals, including 64 gold.
