2009 Canada Games Legacy Trust Fund details announcement (now postponed)

(Updated Nov. 13 with postponement info). Prince Edward Island hosted the Canada Games from August 15-29, 2009. Over 4,400 athletes, coaches and managers came to Prince Edward Island to compete in 18 sports. 5,500 volunteers were recruited to run the two-week event.

In addition to infrastructure, equipment and human legacies that have resulted from the  event, the 2009 Canada Games Host Society announced a $3.3 million dollar surplus from the Games that will help fund emerging athletes on Prince Edward Island. The 2009 Canada Games Legacy Trust was established to assist provincial sporting organizations in helping emerging Island athletes develop, train, and compete at increasing levels.
A news conference that was to be held Thursday November 15, at 10 am in the Crowbush Room at the Rodd Royalty Hotel, Charlottetown to outline the details of the numerous programs and services to be delivered as part of this legacy has now been postponed until a later date.
In attendance was to be Brian McFeely, Chair of the 2009 Canada Games Legacy Trust Fund committee, and Tom Davies, President of the Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island.
All members of the PEI sports community had been invited to attend. Light refreshments were to have been served.
