The Dominion Curling Club Championship starts today in Scarborough Ont.

A one-of-a-kind national Championship for club curlers in support of Spinal Cord Injury Ontario and developmental curling initiatives across Canada.

TORONTO-The Dominion Curling Club Championship, a week-long national curling event presented by The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company (The Dominion), gets underway today. The event, now in its fourth year, is taking place at the Scarboro Golf & Country Club in Scarborough, Ontario and wraps up on the 24th. Last night, the curlers got together for the opening banquet, with the CEO of Own the Podium, former PEI and Ontario curler Anne Merklinger, as the guest speaker.

The event is the ultimate experience for club curlers. Men’s and women’s teams from each of Canada’s provinces and territories come to play each year in round robin competition, all vying for the honour of being named 2012 Canadian Curling Club Champions.  The teams’ places in the event are already hard-won, with each rink having taken home the championship at their provincial or territorial playdowns.

Adding to the excitement and unique to 2012, the Championship will be showcased on TSN. Throughout the week, TSN will be documenting the flavour of the event, offering a snapshot into a curlers journey to the Championship. The one-hour special will air December 2nd, 2012 on TSN2.

All profits from The Dominion Curling Club Championship will be re-directed to Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (formerly the Canadian Paraplegic Association) and developmental curling initiatives in communities across the country. Spinal Cord InjuryCanadaaims to assist persons with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities achieve independence, self reliance and full community participation.  The Dominion is proud to support Spinal Cord Injury Canada in reaching their goals.

PEI is represented this year by the Alan Inman rink from Crapaud, and the Nola Murphy foursome from Summerside.
