Both the PEI men’s team skipped by Crapaud’s Alan Inman, and the Island women’s rink, skipped by Summerside’s Nola Murphy, picked up wins last evening against their Nunavut counterparts at The Dominion Curling Club Championships in Scarborough Ont., but the Murphy foursome did it in dramatic fashion. Trailing 5-2 after six ends, the PEI women’s rink recorded a rare seven-ender in the seventh end to win 9-5 over the Nunavut rink, skipped by Geneva Chislett.

The men’s contest was less dramatic, with The Dominion providing the following game summary:
“Curling in only their fourth game of the season and second at the event, Alan Inman and his Prince Edward Island rink from the Crapaud Curling Club matched up against Nunavut’s Edmund MacDonald. At the fourth end break, PEI lead 5-1 and was off to a great first half. Nunavut held strong and took two in each of the 5th and 6th ends to tie up the game. The 7th end would be the deciding factor and a missed takeout by Nunavut gave Inman the chance to score 3 and solidify the win 8-5. The Islanders’ cheering squad filled with Anne of Green Gables look-a-likes celebrated loudly in the lounge.”
Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick and Quebec are still undefeated on the women’s side, while Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan are unbeaten in the men’s division. The PEI teams are at 1-1, and play Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia today. The Nova Scotia women’s team is skipped by PEI native Marion MacAulay.
