Three draws are in the books after opening day play at the O’Connor Glass/Curl PEI Provincial Under 18 Curling Championships at the Montague Curling Club. The six U18 men’s teams are playing a single round robin, with the second and third place teams playing in a semi-final, with the winner facing the first place team in the championship game. The four U18 women’s rinks are playing a double round robin, with the top two teams advancing to the final.
Two U18 men’s teams, the Tony Nabuurs-skipped rink with players from the Charlottetown Curling Complex, and the Montague & Maple Leaf curling clubs, along with the Justin Campbell foursome from the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club are currently undefeated, with 2-0 win-loss records, while the Emily Keen rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex and the Cornwall Curling Club, and the Jenny MacLean team from the Silver Fox have perfect 2-0 records on the U18 women’s side.

The winning rinks advance to their choice of either the Atlantic Under 18 Curling Championships, March 28-31 at the Caribou Curling Club in Stephenville NL, OR the Optimist International Under 18 Curling Championships, March 27-31 in Surrey and Langley BC, with the runners-up going to the other event. Starting last year, the option to attend the Optimist rotates annually between the four Atlantic Provinces – 2013 is PEI’s turn.
