One triple-knockout boy’s draw, and one round-robin girl’s draw have been played at the O’Connor Glass Under 16 Curling Championships, which got underway today at the Crapaud Community Curling Club.
In the eight team boy’s division, Alex MacFadyen and his Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club team scored three triples in a 10-3 win over Montague’s Owen Collier foursome, while Leslie Noye and his rink from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton also scored a trio of triples in a 12-6 doubling of Cornwall’s Devin Schut team. Tyler Smith and his combined Montague/Crapaud team followed a four-ender with two single steals in a 9-4 victory over Charlottown’s Spencer Stetson rink, while Avery Wells and his Cornwall and Crapaud team edged Charlottetown’s Brent Matheson team 6-5.
The Danielle Collings team from Montague, the Kaleigh MacKay foursome from Crapaud and the Silver Fox, and the Rachel O’Connor rink from Cornwall are all 1-0 in the round robin girl’s division, with Collings defeating Tara Ray Crossman and her Crapaud/Silver Fox team 8-5, MacKay stealing six consecutive ends in an 11-1 win over Karlie Lewis and her Western team, and O’Connor beating Lauren Moerike and her Charlottetown Curling Complex team 8-6.

Play continues Friday with boys draws at 10 am and 6:30 pm, with the girls taking to the ice at 2 pm. Saturday draws are also at 10, 2 and 6:30, with Sunday play at 10, 2, 6, and, if necessary, a girls division tiebreakers at 9 pm. The second and third place girls teams following the round robin advance to the semi-final, Monday at 1 pm, with the winner taking on the first place team in the 5 pm final. The men’s semi and final are also on Monday, at the same times.
