Two of the four qualifiers for the Page championship round were decided on Saturday in the eight team boy’s divison at the O’Connor Glass Provincial Under 16 Curling Championship at the Crapaud Community Curling Club. The combined Montague/Crapaud rink skipped by Tyler Smith qualified first, with a 7-1 win over Leslie Noye and his team from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, while the Alex MacFadyen team from the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside nabbed the second qualifying spot with a 9-2 win over Noye. Smith and MacFadyen will now play in the Page 1-2 game Sunday at 6 pm, with the winner advancing directly to the 5 pm final, and the loser playing in the semi-final at 1 pm Monday.
The teams are in place for the third and fourth qualifying games, Sunday at 10 am, with Brett Matheson of Charlottetown taking on Avery Wells from Cornwall and Crapaud, and Montague’s Collier playing Noye. The winners of these games will advance to the Page 3-4 game Sunday at 6 pm, with the winner advancing to the semi-final at 1 pm Monday. The winner of the semi-final will play in the 5 pm final.

With one round robin draw remaining in the six team girl’s division, on Sunday at 2 pm, two teams, skipped by Rachel O’Connor of Cornwall, and Kaleigh MacKay of Crapaud and the Silver Fox are already assured of berths in the three team playoff round. The two teams were undefeated going into this evening’s draw, where they faced off against each other, with O’Connor stealing a 4-ender, and deuces in the final two ends for a 10-4 win. O’Connor has a 4-0 win-loss record, while MacKay is 3-1.
Next is Lauren Moerike from Charlottetown, at 2-2. If she wins her next game, against Tara Ray Crossman (1-3), she will grab the final playoff berth. If she loses and one or more of the 1-3 teams, which also include Montague’s Danielle Collings and Alberton’s Karlie Lewis, wins, there would be a tiebreaking situation. The semi-final, between the second and third place teams goes Monday at 1 pm, with the winner facing the first place team in the 5 pm final.
