The defending champion Alan Inman foursome from the Crapaud Community Curling Club, and the Sharon Horne rink from the host Western Community Curling Club have advanced to their respective 5:30 pm Sunday finals at the provincial The Dominion Curling Club Championships. Inman finished round robin play with a spotless 5-0 record to take first place in the men’s divison, while Horne and former champion Lorianne Davies from the Cornwall Curling Club both had 4-1 win-loss records after round robin play. Since Horne beat Davies, by a 10-4 score in their round robin encounter, she is awarded first place and a berth in the final. The semi-finals, between the second and third place teams, go at 1:30 pm Sunday, with the winners of the semis advancing to the men’s and women’s finals.

The men’s semis see Montague’s Paul Morrison team take on the Blair Jay rink from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside. Both teams finished at 3-2, with Jay taking second place honours by virtue of his 8-3 round robin win over Morrison. The other rinks in the Men’s division are the Alan Brown team from Charlottetown and the Mike Trudeau foursome from Western, who both finished at 2-3, and the Paul Neima team from Cornwall, who did not pick up a win in five starts.

Tiebreakers are needed to decide third place on the women’s side, as the Carol Kennedy rink from Charlottetown, the Tracy Yorston-Campbell team from Montague, and the Karen MacDonald foursome from the Silver Fox all ended round robin play with 2-3 records. Kennedy and Yorston-Campbell are playing in this evening’s first tiebreaker, with the winner taking on MacDonald for the third and final playoff spot, to advance to the semi against Davies. Crapaud’s Vanessa Hamming, who finished at 1-4, rounds out the women’s field.

The winning men’s and women’s rinks from this year’s championships will advance to the national The Dominion Curling Club Championship, November 18-23, 2013 at the Fort William Curling Club in Thunder Bay Ontario.
