ALBERTON — A St. Patrick’s Day Dance at St. Anthony’s Legion, dinner and kitchen party at the Rodd Mill River Resort and, of course, curling at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton are among the many activities planned for curlers participating in the Dominion Command Legion Curling Championships next week in Alberton.
Ready to host National Legion curling Geoffrey Irving, left and Cletus Dunn, co-chairs of the host committee for the Dominion Command Legion Curling Championship, display the legion crest in the ice at the Western Community Curling Club, where the national competition will be played, starting Sunday. Many of the social events connected with the seven-team championship will be based out of the host St. Anthony’s Legion. The curling competition will be based out of Alberton’s curling club. Seven provinces are sending teams to the championship. The Mel Bernard rink from Summerside Legion is the P.E.I. representative.
Official opening ceremonies are at 1:30 p.m. and there are draws scheduled for 2 and 7 p.m. Draws on Tuesday and Wednesday are at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., and the final round robin draw goes Wednesday at 9 a.m. Tiebreakers, if necessary will be played Wednesday afternoon. All draws are open to the public.
