PEI drops to 3-6 – will miss playoffs at Canadian Postal

With one round robin draw left on Friday morning at 10, PEI’s Bob Cameron rink will not be making the playoff round at the 47th Canadian Postal  Employees Curling Classic  at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax. The team, which has represented PEI three years in a row, and includes Eldon Kilbride (3rd), Mike Bernard (second), and Regan Kenny (lead), lost both their games today to drop to a 3-6 win-loss record. The Island squad lost 9-2 to defending champion Maurel Erick of Saskatchewan, and 10-3 to Nova Scotia’s Kris Tynski  today, and finishes  play on Friday morning at 10 against Quebec’s Anne Hardy.

Last year’s runner-up rink, skipped by Ron Rosengren of Northern Ontario, remains undefeated, and has wrapped up first place with a 9-0 record. Quebec is at 7-2 and Saskatchewan, who has the bye in the final round robin draw, is at 7-3.  Nova Scotia and Ontario are 6-3. Three of these four teams will advancing to the Page playoff round.

Out of playoff contention are Alberta and NB with five losses, PEI and Newfoundland and Labrador with 6, Manitoba with 8, and BC with 9.

Tiebreakers, if needed, go at 2:30 pm Friday, with Page playoffs (1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th) at 7 pm. The semi-final (loser of the 1 vs 2 vs winner of the 3 vs 4) goes Saturday  at 10 am, with the final (winner 1 vs 2 vs winner semi) at 2 pm.
