Northern Ontario goes undefeated to win Canadian Postal Curling title

This year’s final game at the 47th Canadian Postal  Employees Curling Classic  at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax featured the same teams as last year, but with a different winner. Last year’s runner-up rink, skipped by Ron Rosengren of Northern Ontario, beat the defending champion Maurel Erick foursome from Saskatchewan by a 7-5 score to win this year’s championship game.

Northern Ontario went undefeated in the event, finishing round robin play with a 10-0 win-loss record, while Sask. finished third in the round robin with a a 7-3 record, behind Quebec at 8-2. Ontario was the fourth team to advance to the playoff round, with a 6-4 record, tied with Nova Scotia, who they edged 8-7 in a tiebreaker on Friday.

Sask. eliminated Ont. 8-2 in the Page 3 vs 4 game, while Northern Ont. downed Quebec 10-3. Saskatchewan then went on to beat Quebec 10-4 in the semi-final to advance to the championship game against Ontario.

PEI’s Bob Cameron rink did not advance to the playoff round, finishing round robin play with a 3-7 record,  losing their final game to Quebec on Friday by a 7-0 score.

Next year’s Postal Curling championship will take place March 30 – April 6 in Trois Rivieres Quebec.
