PEI natives Carmody and Ramsay both qualify for money round in Edmonton Cashspiel

Calgary’s Crystal Webster rink, which includes Summerside native Geri-Lynn Ramsay, had the day off Saturday at The Shootout in Edmonton, qualifying on the A side of the $26,000 32 team triple-knockout event, after beating Russia’s Anna Sidorova rink 5-4 in their A qualifier game.The Webster team added Winnipeg’s Cathy Overton-Clapham to their lineup this season, replacing PEI native Erin Carmody at third. Carmody is now playing third on the Laura Crocker team from Edmonton, who also qualified for the money round late Saturday. After two losses, they were in the C flight of the event, and had to win all three of their games Saturday to advance. They beat two Alberta teams, skipped  by Tiffany Game and by Renee Sonnenburg, and then edged Switzerland’s Alina Paetz 5-4 in their qualifier game.

The championship round begins with the quarter-finals Sunday at noon Atlantic. The semis go at 3:30, with the final at 7 pm.

Prize purse: 1st: $5,000, 2nd: $3,000, 3-4: $2,000, 5-8: $1,500,
plus ($500 bonus per A Qualifier, $1,000 per losing C Finalist, $500 per losing C Semi-Finalist)
