There’ll be no autumn gold this weekend for either the Crystal Webster rink from Calgary, which includes PEI native Geri-Lynn Ramsay, or the Laura Crocker rink out of Edmonton, with PEI native Erin Carmody at third, as neither team advanced to this morning’s (noon Atlantic time) quarter-final round at the 36th Curler’s Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic in Calgary. Webster finished with a 2-3 win-loss record, while Crocker, who doubled Webster 6-3 when they met in the triple knockout, finished with 4 wins and 3 losses, losing a “C” qualifier last night to China’s Bingyu Wang.
Defending champ Sherry Middaugh and her Ontario squad also failed to qualify in the $50,000 32 team event. A side qualifiers are Eve Muirhead of Scotland, and 2004 event winner Stefanie Lawton of Saskatoon, while Michele Jaggi of Switzerland, and Valerie Sweeting of Edmonton qualified in B. Besides 2010 event winner Wang, the C-event qualifiers are Rachel Homan of Ottawa, two-time event winner Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, and Edmonton’s Heather Nedohin. The final goes at 6:30 pm Atlantic.
