The $37,000 triple-knockout Challenge Casino de Charlevoix cashspiel in Clermont Quebec got underway this morning, and wraps up on Sunday, with 20 teams, including PEI’s Eddie MacKenzie foursome, taking part. Brent MacDougall from Halifax, Ian Fitzner-Leblanc from Lower Sackville, Wayne Tallon from Fredericton, and James Grattan from Oromocto are also in the event. The MacKenzie team, which includes 3rd Tyler MacKenzie, second Anson Carmody, and lead Sean Ledgerwood, starts play at 3:30 AST this afternoon against Martin Ferland from Quebec City. Defending champ Peter de Cruz from Switzerland is not back this year, but last year’s runner-up, Brier champ Brad Jacobs from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, is back, and considered by many to be the favourite to win this year. The MacKenzie rink were also there last year, but finished out of the playoffs.
