Cornwall’s Ching, Keen teams pick up opening draw wins at Future Scotties (plus picture gallery)

The Meghan Ching and Emily Keen teams from the Cornwall Curling Club both picked up wins this morning in the the inaugural Future Scotties event, being held in conjunction with the Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s curling championship  in Charlottetown. Four teams are entered in this developmental event, for junior curlers who may one day go on to compete in the Scotties.

Meghan Ching rink

Ching scored four points in the fourth end in her game against Charlottetown’s Lauren Moerike, and followed with a stolen deuce and triple. The game ended early with an 11-2 final score.

The Keen rink’s game was closer, 5-3 over Kaleigh MacKay and her Montague/Crapaud team, with the Cornwall foursome stealing a single in the fourth, and not having to throw their final rock in the eighth end.

The Junior curlers play two more draws, Saturday and Sunday morning at 10.

Shirley Berry (2-0) has the afternoon off in the Scotties, with Kathy O’Rourke (2-0) taking on Lisa Jackson, (0-1), and Kim Dolan (0-2)  taking on defending champ Suzanne Birt (0-1). Game time is 2 pm..The Berry rink is from Cornwall and the Silver Fox, while the other four teams in the Scotties are from the host Charlottetown Curling Complex.

Berry faces the other 2-0 team, O’Rourke, at 7 pm, with Birt playing Jackson in the other match.
