O’Rourke improves to 3-0, defending champ Birt falls to 0-2 at PEI Scotties

The third round robin draw, which featured the four host-club teams, is over at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s curling championship at the Charlottetown Curling Complex. The Kathy O’Rourke rink continued their winning ways, with a 7-1 victory over the Lisa Jackson team. O’Rourke improves to 3-0, while Jackson drops to a 0-2 win-loss record. In the other game, last year’s runner-up, Kim Dolan, picked up her first win, 8-6 over defending champion Suzanne Birt, who is winless in two starts. Dolan is at 1-2. The Shirley Berry rink from Cornwall and the Silver Fox had the bye in the round, and are undefeated at 2-0.

Berry faces O’Rourke in the battle of undefeated teams at 7 pm. The other game sees Birt take on Jackson.

In this afternoon’s game against Jackson, O’Rourke blanked the ffirst end, took a single in the second, stole a deuce in the third, and a single in the fourth to lead 4-0. Jackson got on the board with a single in the fifth, but a triple by the O’Rourke squad in the sixth put the game out of reach for the Jackson four.

A pair of deuces gave Birt a 4-2 lead at half-time in her game against Dolan., who came on strong in the second half with a deuce, a stolen single, and a triple.Birt picked up a pair in nine, but ran out of rocks in the final end.
