Brad Gushue rolled past Glenn Howard 7-1 in just six ends during Draw 6 action at the Players’ Championship in Summerside, P.E.I., on Thursday.
Gushue, from St. John’s, N.L., broke a 1-1 tie with a triple in the fourth, stole one in the fifth and added a steal of two in the sixth.
Howard, from Penetanguishene, Ont., dropped to a 1-2 record at the Grand Slam of Curling event while Gushue improved to 3-0 in round-robin play.
Elsewhere, Sweden’s Niklas Edin crushed Switzerland’s Sven Michel 7-2 in five ends. Edin opened the scoring with a triple in the first and stole singles in the second and third ends to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. Michel managed to score a deuce in the fourth but Edin replied with a double of his own and the two rinks shook hands.
Edin is 2-1 in the tournament while Michel (0-3) continues to look for his first win.
In the women’s division, Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni Team draws the 4 foot with the final stone and defeats Julie Hastings, from Thornhill, Ont., 6 – 5.
Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton scored a double in the sixth but lost 8-4 to Switzerland’s Michele Jaggi.
Calgary’s Crystal Webster. scored a single in the extra end to edge Edmonton’s Heather Nedohin 5 – 4.
