CurlingZone Vine video: Mike McEwen makes flat double for two to win 7-6 over Adam Casey in Draw 3 this afternoon at the Canadian Open Grand Slam event in Yorkton SK.
(Grand Slam of Curling article by Jonathan Brazeau):
Casey opened the game with a triple in the second and McEwen bounced back with a deuce in three. Casey settled for one in the fourth and McEwen pulled ahead with another deuce in the fifth followed by a steal of one in six. Casey scored two in seven to regain the lead.
McEwen tops the World Curling Tour’s order of merit list and won the National Grand Slam title last month.
Elsewhere in Draw Three, Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher scored four in the seventh and stunned Olympic gold medallist Brad Jacobs with an 8-3 victory at the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Canadian Open Wednesday.
Bottcher trailed 2-0 after the first but jumped into the lead with a point in the second followed by single steals in three consecutive ends. Jacobs, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., settled for one in the sixth and shook hands after the seventh.
“We got off to a little bit of a shaky start and gave up two in the first end that we didn’t deserve to give up then just started playing better and figuring out the ice only one shot at a time and that worked out well for us,” Bottcher said. “We just made more shots than they did by the end of the game.”
Bottcher’s team moves on in the A bracket and will face Toronto’s John Epping in his next match.
