The Curl PEI Provincial Masters Curling Championships, for curlers age 60 and over, continues Sunday at the Cornwall Curling Club, with draws at 9 AM, and 12:30 and 4 PM. The defending champion Shirley Berry rink from the host club and the Charlottetown Curling Complex won the first two games in their best of five series against Cornwall’s Diane MacKay rink, and will take the women’s title if they win either of their Sunday games, at 9 and 12:30, while MacKay would have to win both to force a deciding game on Monday at 1 PM. In action Saturday, Berry picked up four points in the seventh end in a 9-5 win in the women’s opener, and had two four point ends in the second game, a 12-4 win for Berry.

Two teams are still unbeaten in the 10 team men’s section – the Dale Cannon and Mel Bernard rinks from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, and will square off in the “A” final of the modified triple knockout draw, at 9 this morning. Bernard, aided by a five point sixth end, beat Clair Sweet and his team from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary 8-1 on Saturday, while Cannon doubled Ray Biagé from the host club 6-3. Sweet, along with Bill Hope of Charlottetown and Cornwall are in the B section, and face Cannon and Bernard, respectively, in the B semi-finals at 12:30 PM Saturday.
Biagé along with Matt Smith of Charlottetown, Paul Arsenault of Cornwall, and Bob Maynard of the Silver Fox are still alive in the “must win” C event, and play at 9 am, with Smith taking on Biagé and Arsenault facing Maynard. The winners of the three sections will advance to the championship round on Tuesday.
The men’s and women’s winners and runners-up (which will include both women’s teams this year) will earn the right to compete in the Maritime Masters Championships. Dates and venue for this event have not yet been announced. The winning teams, or the highest-finishing men’s and women’s rinks that choose to attend, are invited to participate in the 2015 NVA Hotel Divison Canadian Masters Championships, March 30 to Apr. 5 at the Whitehorse Curling Club in the Yukon.
End by end results from the Provincial Masters will be available at curlatlantic.com/scoreboard/
