“Our goal is not just to get through relegation and make sure P.E.I. is not relegated next year, we are going to go to the Brier and try to win it,” said Casey, who is from Seven Mile Bay.
Casey edged Charlottetown’s Jamie Newson 7-6 in an extra end to win the P.E.I. men’s curling championship at the Western Community Curling Club on Tuesday afternoon.
A Canadian Curling Association media release explained Team Canada will be joined in the Brier’s main draw by the 10 provinces with the best combined records in the previous three Canadian men’s curling championships. Thus, P.E.I., Yukon and Nova Scotia will play a single round robin, with the top two teams advancing to the final to determine the 12th and final berth. If there’s a three-way tie, noted Casey, a draw to the button will eliminate one team.
