P.E.I. teams get on winning track at Canadian senior curling championships (Journal)

EDMONTON – P.E.I.’s representatives at the 2015 Canadian senior curling championships recorded their first wins on Sunday.

The Rod MacDonald-skipped men’s rink from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside and Charlottetown Curling Complex began Sunday’s play with an 8-3 win over New Brunswick’s Wayne Tallon, and then lost 7-2 to Manitoba’s Randy Neufeld to go into Monday’s action at 1-2 (won-lost).

Saturday, MacDonald dropped his only game of Day 1 by a 5-4 score to British Columbia’s Wes Craig, who counted a single point in the final eighth end.

Monday, the MacDonald foursome will take on Nunavut (Ed Sattelberger) and Ontario (Jeff McGrady).

Women

The P.E.I. women’s rink, skipped by Shirley Berry out of the Cornwall Curling Club and Charlottetown Curling Complex, is 1-2 after the first two days of play.

After dropping her first two games Saturday, Berry scored back-to-back triples, including a steal of three in the final end, to defeat Manitoba’s Kim Link 6-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Saturday, Ontario’s Kathy Brown scored single points in each of the first four ends, and then used a four-ender in the sixth to close out the game’s scoring in an 8-1 win in Draw 2.

The P.E.I. women play Alberta’s Terri Loblaw on Monday.
