Round robin play finished Sunday evening at the Travelers Curling Club Championship being played at the Crapaud Community Curling Club, with three men’s teams and three women’s rinks advancing to their respective Monday championship rounds.
The three men’s teams advancing from the seven rink men’s division all have 5-1 win-loss records – the Alan Inman rink from the host club, the Freddy Fraser team from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, and the John Derosiers rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex. Two of those rinks will square off in the 11 am semi-final, with the winner playing the third team in the 3 pm final. The team to earn the bye to the final depends on draw to the button results, and has not yet been announced.
On the five team women’s side, Cornwall’s Lisa Jackson team went undefeated with a 4-0 win-loss record and have earned a bye to the 3 pm Monday final. They’ll play the winner of the 11 am semi-final game between Vanessa Hamming of Crapaud and Iva Griffin of the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, who both finished round robin action with 2-2 records. If the MacRae rink loses the 3 pm game, their unbeaten status gives them another chance, and a sudden-death final will then be scheduled.
The winning men’s and women’s teams will advance to the national Travelers Curling Club Championship, November 23-28, 2015 at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club, in Ottawa Ontario.
