NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – The Suzanne Birt rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex capped a perfect weekend on Sunday afternoon.

Birt, a Summerside native, took advantage of the hammer to score one three-ender and two deuces to outlast Colleen Pinkney of Truro, N.S., 8-5 in the women’s championship game of the Sobeys Classic cashspiel. The women’s competition featured a purse pool of $5,400.Birt, third stone Robyn Green, second stone Meaghan Hughes and lead Marie Christianson completed the weekend event 7-0 (won-lost).

The Shelly Bradley rink, also consisting of third stone Veronica Smith, second stone Jane DiCarlo and lead Tricia Affleck, completed the round robin at 1-4. Susan McInnis is the team’s alternate.
