The circles have been cut and painted, and the Cornwall Curling Club’s ice will be ready in lots of time for their 6:30 pm Wednesday curling instruction (postponed from Tuesday due to a faulty ice plant part), thanks to the dedicated Cornwall ice crew of Lance Lowther, Al MacCormac, Jeff Taylor & Roy Coffin, who worked until 2 this morning, as well as Montague ice technician Larry Richards, who cut the circles and, along with his wife Barbie, stayed to help with the painting, and Phyllis Lowther, who did the all-important coffee runs. Left to do: install the back lines, T-lines, advertising decals, etc., flood the “Jet Ice” a number of times, scrape, pebble, install the hacks, and try out their newly reconditioned rocks.
Cornwall is holding its annual free, no-obligation adult curling lessons, along with open house and new member registration Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday Oct. 14-16 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to come and try out this Olympic sport on any or all of these nights (there are both beginner and continuing lessons each night). Bring clean sneakers, and wear loose or stretchy pants and a light jacket. League curling begins October 19.
