The PEI Tankard provincial men’s curling championship gets underway at 2 this afternoon at the Charlottetown Curling Complex. The winning Tankard team will advance to the Tim Hortons Brier, March 5-13, 2016 at TD Place in Ottawa Ontario.
Six teams, including the defending champion Adam Casey squad from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club and the Charlottetown Curling Complex are in the Tankard. Other entries include the Robert Campbell, Eddie MacKenzie and Jamie Newson rinks from Charlottetown, Tyler Harris from Charlottetown and Montague, and the Tyler Smith team from Crapaud and Montague. Opening draw is 2 pm this afternoon, with Campbell taking on Smith, and MacKenzie facing Harris. Opening ceremonies are at 6:15, followed by draw two at 7 pm, with Casey taking on the Campbell/Smith winner, and Newson playing the winner of the MacKenzie/Harris match.
The PEI Future Tankard developmental event for male curlers under 21 takes place at the same time and venue, with two teams, skipped by brothers Devin and Mitchell Schut from the Cornwall Curling Club, signed up. First game is 7 pm this evening.

Tickets for the Tankard are $5 per draw or $20 for the weekend.
Overflow Parking is available from 5 pm Friday through Sunday night in the Holland College Staff Parking Lot, located on Fitzroy St. beside Hashem’s Variety (Old Charlottetown Forum lot)
Here is the draw and schedule for both events. The Future Tankard play a three game series, while the Tankard will be a modified triple knockout, qualifying up to three teams for a two game championship round. If a team wins all three sections of the draw, they will be declared the winner without the championship round. A team winning two sections would play in both championship games, and would take the title if they win either game, while their opponent would have to win both.
