Smith finished off Jamie Newson, Vanessa Hamming, Tyler Harris and Miranda Ellis from Crapaud and Charlottetown clubs 9-4 Monday afternoon at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. It was her third victory over Newson in four meetings during the nine-team modified triple knock-out championship.
“It’s nice to have a younger team coming in and showing we can still play with the older, more experienced curlers,” the winning skip acknowledged. She’s only one year out of junior ranks and the other curlers on her team are all still junior age.
Smith also had the distinction of being the only female in the competition throwing skip stones. But she said she wasn’t intimidated by it. “I know I have great people ahead of me, so I just needed to make my shots.”
