Round robin play wrapped up Sunday evening at the provincial Travelers Curling Club Championship in Cornwall, with the Silver Fox men, skipped by Barry Cameron, and the Western Community Curling Club women, with skip Sharon Horne, finishing with perfect 6-0 and 5-0 records, respectively, and advancing directly to the finals, which will take place at 3 pm Tuesday. In the event that one of those teams loses in their final, the rules state that they must be beaten twice, and a sudden death final would follow at 7 pm Tuesday.
Crapaud (Julie Mutch) and Charlottetown (Tammi Cudmore) women both finished with 3-2 win-loss records and, as second and third place finishers, advance to the women’s semi-final at 11 am Tuesday (for the record, Crapaud beat Charlottetown 8-3 in their round robin encounter, and are awarded 2nd place). The winner of the semi will advance to the 3 pm Tuesday final.
Four men’s teams (Maple Leaf, Charlottetown, Montague, Crapaud) all had 3-3 win-loss records. After tiebreaking rules were applied, Charlottetown (Dennis Watts) was awarded second place and a berth in the 11 am Tuesday Men’s semi-final. Montague (Paul Morrison) and Crapaud (Alan Inman) will play in the first tiebreaker game – Monday at 11 am, with the winner taking on Maple Leaf (Bob Matheson) in the second tiebreaker, Monday at 3 pm The winner of that game goes to the 11am Tuesday semi-final, with the winner of the semi facing the Silver Fox (Cameron) men’s team in the 3pm Tuesday final.
