PEI’s Veronica Smith rink was up one coming home with last rock advantage in their quarter-final game against the Christie Gamble team from Halifax in the Jim Sullivan Curling Classic cashspiel, presented by WFG, at the Thistle-St. Andrews Curling Club in Saint John, but Gamble stole the eighth, and then stole the extra end for a 4-3 win. Heidi Hanlon of Saint John won the other quarter-final, 6-3 over Shelly Graham of Fredericton. Hanlon takes on Sylvie Robichaud of Curl Moncton in one of the noon semis, while Gamble faces another Monctonian, Denise Nowlan, in the other. The final is at 3 pm.
Over in the men’s section, the semis will see Quebec’s Jean-Michel Menard play Mike Kennedy, while James Grattan faces Stuart Thompson. PEI’s Tyler Harris finished with a 2-3 win-loss record, just out of the playoffs.
