Robbie Doherty, lead with the Eddie MacKenzie rink, releases a shot while second stone Matt Nabuurs, left, and third stone Sean Ledgerwood handle the sweeping chores during Sunday afternoon’s final game of the Tankard provincial men’s curling championship at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex. The MacKenzie rink defeated Phil Gorveatt’s rink twice on Sunday to earn P.E.I.’s berth at the Tim Hortons Brier in St. John’s, N.L., in March.

Nabuurs’s teammates were thrilled to share in the accomplishment.
“It’s his first Purple Heart, and it’s really special to be a part of that,” said lead Robbie Doherty.
