The first day of play has wrapped up at the final PEI curling championships of the season — the KFC Under 13 at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex in Summerside, and the Travelers Curling Club Championships at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton.
There are three teams still undefeated, with 2-0 win-loss records, at the 9 team KFC Under 13 Open (any combination of boys and/or girls) Championship, including the Clara Jack team from Cornwall and the Cruz Pineau foursome from the Silver Fox, both of whom recently competed in the Under 16, along with the Eliza Blacquiere rink from Montague. The top four teams after Saturday play will advance to the semi-finals Sunday morning at 11, with the semi winners going to the 2:30 pm final.
Meanwhile, with three men’s and one women’s round robin draw played at the Travelers, the Charlottetown men, skipped by Mitchell O’Shea (2-0) and the Silver Fox, Crapaud, and Western women, are still unbeaten. The championship round starts Monday morning, with men’s and women’s winners advancing to the national Travelers Curling Club Championship Nov. 20-25 2017 at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club in Kingston Ont.
