Round robin play wraps up Sunday with women’s draws at 9 am and 4 pm, and men’s games at 12:30 and 7:30 pm in the PEI Travelers Curling Club Championships at the three-sheet Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. Cornwall (Paul Arsenault) and Crapaud (Alan Inman) lead the 7 club men’s side, with 3-1 win-loss records, with the host Western Community Club, the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex in Summerside, and the Charlottetown Curling Complex all at two losses, the Maple Leaf club in O’Leary at three, and Montague winless in 4 starts. In the six club women’s event, Amanda MacLean and her Summerside Silver Fox rink and Julie Mutch from Crapaud are both undefeated at 3-0, with Western, Cornwall, and Montague all at 1-2, while Charlottetown is 0-3.
The top three teams from both round robins, following any tiebreakers, would advance to their respective championship rounds on Monday and, if needed, Tuesday, with Monday draw times for tiebreakers and/or championship round games allocated for 9:30 am, 1:30 pm and, if needed, 5:30, and Tuesday draws, if required, scheduled for 9, 1, and 5. If tiebreaker rounds are required in either division, they would start at 9:30 Monday. If not that division’s semi-finals go then, with the 2nd vs. 3rd place teams playing off, and the winners playing the first place teams at 1:30. In the event that either MacLean or Mutch remain undefeated, a deciding game would follow the first final in the next draw slot for the women’s title.
The winning provincial teams will advance to the 2018 Travelers Curling Club Championship, to be played Nov. 20-25 2017 at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club in Kingston Ont.
