The men’s division of the PEI Travelers Curling Championship, being played at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton has been decided, with the Summerside Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex team of Leo Stewart (skip), Barry Cameron (3rd), Darrell Thibeau (2nd) and Cory Montgomery (lead) defeating the Charlottetown Curling Complex rink, skipped by Mitch O’Shea, 7-3 in this afternoon’s final. The Stewart rink lost their first two games, and then reeled off six wins for the title. The runner-up Shea rink includes third Rodney Hood, second Cory Arseneau, and lead Brent Campbell. Stewart beat Crapaud’s Alan Inman 5-2, while O’Shea got by the host club’s entry, skipped by Glen Betts, by an 8-6 score in the semis.

Meanwhile, the first of what could be two women’s championship games goes at 5:30 with undefeated Crapaud (Julie Mutch) facing Charlottetown (Susan Dowling-Shaw). If Mutch wins, Crapaud will take the championship. If Dowling-Shaw wins, there will be a deciding game between the two teams at 9 am on Tuesday.
Charlottetown downed Montague, skipped by Darlene Macleod-London, 8-1 in a tiebreaker this morning, and then doubled the Silver Fox team, skipped by Amanda MacLean, 4-2 to advance to the 5:30 pm final.
The Stewart rink and the winning women’s team will advance to the 2018 Travelers Curling Club Championship, to be played Nov. 20-25 2017 at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club in Kingston Ont.
