Birt beats Smith in extra end of WFG Jim Sullivan Classic semi, and faces Andrea Crawford in 3:30 pm final

Suzanne Birt won the “Battle of PEI” over last year’s event runner-up Veronica Smith in semi-final play this afternoon at the WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic in Saint John, and will face Fredericton’s Andrea Crawford in the 3:30 pm final.

Smith was leading 6-4 after six ends, but Birt took a single in the seventh, stole one in the eighth, and stole a deuce in the extra end for an 8-6 come-from-behind win. Crawford stole four in the seventh in an 8-1 routing of Erica Cluff, also from Fredericton. PEI’s Melissa Morrow rink finished just out of the playoffs with a 2-2 win-loss record.

No PEI teams are entered in the men’s section, which sees Jamie Murphy play Kendal Thompson in an all-Halifax final.
