Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary shuts down for the season

The Board of Directors of the Maple Leaf Curling Club has made a decision to end the curling season effective immediately.

The pandemic is impacting daily life throughout Prince Edward Island, and beyond. It is the belief of our Board that we must make this decision in order to stay ahead of what we have been advised is yet to come. If in some small way our decision will help keep our Island communities and our Island Health system functioning than we will have no regrets at a later date.

The upcoming weekend was to be the “Centennial Closing Spiel” at the Club. Centennial is one of our major sponsors and we would want to do this sponsor proud with a large turnout. Given the circumstances around the pandemic and the impacts it is already having on the Island and our local communities we will not be having next weekend’s closing spiel. In fact, the plant will be shut down either Sunday the 15th or Monday the 16th.

With this decision we do realize that it will have financial impacts on finances – however, we are prepared to work towards ensuring we have the finances to start up again in the fall as usual.
Please understand that this is an issue bigger than any one organization but at the same time we need to be part of doing what will be the best for us all in the longer run.
Watch for an upcoming announcement regarding the date of our annual meeting this spring.

Thanks to all our sponsors, volunteers, staff, members and board for making this season another great one. Look forward to seeing you all next season!!
