The Brad Gushue rink from St. John’s NL, which includes PEI native Brett Gallant, landed in Halifax earlier today for their first curling event of the season, the Dave Jones Stanhope Simpson Insurance cashspiel at the Mayflower Curling Club, with 16 teams playing a triple-knockout format for a $20,000 purse. PEI’s Team Birt is competing in the $7500 total purse 8-team women’s side of the event. Also entered is PEI native Erin Carmody on the Jill Brothers team.

Beside Gallant, no other PEI natives are on the men’s event roster. Ryan Abraham, who has attended school and competed on PEI is on the Matthew Manuel rink from Halifax, while on Team Trent Skanes from St. John’s, lead Spencer Wicks’ mother is a Summerside native.
