The Rachel MacLean Girls Team and Mitchell Schut Boys rink from the Cornwall Curling Club have won both the A and B sections of their modified triple-knockout draws and have a big advantage going into the remaining draws at the PEI Under 18 Curling Championships at the Montague Curling Club.
In the “B” section finals Saturday afternoon MacLean again faced the Madalyn Easter squad from the Silver Fox in Summerside, winning by a 5-3 score, while the Schut rink again played clubmate Brayden Snow and his team, winning 7-4.
Winning two sections puts both MacLean and Schut in both championship games on Sunday, and a win in either will give them the championship, while their opponent, the winner of the C division, would have to win both. In the event that MacLean or Schut also advance to the “C final and win it, they will take the title without playing the championship round.
The “C” semi-finals go at 6:30 Sat. evening, with the “C” finals at 9:30 am Sunday. The championship round, if needed, goes at 2 pm and, if needed, 6:30 pm on Sunday.
In the semis, Schut takes on Isaiah Dalton, Snow faces Summerside’s Brock Rochford, MacLean plays clubmate and reigning U16 champ Ella Lenentine, while Easter and Sydney Carver from the host Montague club square off.
Live, end by end results from all draws will be available at PEICurling.com.
Spectators aren’t permitted at this event due to COVID-19 restrictions. Teams Schut and Snow are live-streaming their games on their Facebook pages.
