The Rachel MacLean Girls Team and Mitchell Schut Boys rink from the Cornwall Curling Club are both one win away from winning PEI Under 18 Championship titles at the Montague Curling Club after capturing both the A and B sections of their modified triple-knockout draws and advancing to their respective “C” finals at 9:30 Sunday morning. A win in that game or either of the two championship round games at 2 and 6:30 pm would give MacLean or Schut the title for their division. If they don’t win the “C” final, the winner of that section would also have to win both championship round games.
Team Schut cruised to a 14-2 victory in six ends over the Isaiah Dalton rink, also from Cornwall, in the “C” semis on Saturday evening, while MacLean beat Cornwall clubmate and reigning U16 champ Ella Lenentine 6-2 to advance to their “C” final. As happened in the “A” and “B” finals, Schut will be facing clubmate Brayden Snow in the “C final, while MacLean will take on the Madalyn Easter squad from the Silver Fox in Summerside. Team Snow doubled Brock Rochford and his Silver Fox team 6-3 in the “C” semis, while Easter beat Sydney Carver from the host Montague club 8-5.
In the “B” section finals Saturday afternoon, MacLean beat Easter 5-3, while Schut rink defeated Snow by a 7-4 score.
Live, end by end results from all draws will be available at PEICurling.com.
Spectators aren’t permitted at this event due to COVID-19 restrictions. Teams Schut and Snow are live-streaming their games on their Facebook pages.
