Team Gunnlaugson with PEI’s Adam Casey again representing Manitoba at the Brier

Just before Christmas, CurlManitoba announced that it was cancelling their provincial men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles championships scheduled for February of 2021. They had previously announced the appointment criteria for teams to represent Manitoba at the national events in the event that provincials had to be cancelled.

Last year’s Manitoba representatives at the Tim Hortons Brier, Team Jason Gunnlaugson, which includes PEI’s Adam Casey, accepted their invitation and will be making a return trip to the Brier, , Mar. 6-14, 2021, at the Markin MacPhail Centre, in Calgary, while Team Jennifer Jones will be representing the province at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the same venue in February. Fifth Lisa Weagle will be sitting in for Jones’ lead Dawn McEwen, who is pregnant and expecting in April, and has decided not to compete in the Calgary curling “bubble”. Manitoba’s Kerri Einarson team will also be there, as they won the Scotties last year and get to return as Team Canada.

Team Gunnlaugson had beaten Mike McEwen to advance to the 2020 Brier. In this year’s Brier lineup, Casey has moved from second stone to replace Alex Forrest at third, with Matt Wozniak joining the team at second, and Connor Njegovan again playing lead. Jacques Gauthier is alternate.

Casey is currently living in Charlottetown and keeping his game in shape by frequent practicing at Island curling clubs. As well as Manitoba, Casey, a native of Seven Mile Bay PEI, has also curled at the Brier for Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Saskatchewan.
