OTTAWA, Ont. — Erin Carmody’s Olympic dreams are still alive.

Carmody, who grew up in Summerside and is a product of the junior curling program at the Silver Fox Entertainment Complex, plays third stone for the Jill Brothers-skipped rink. After losing its first two games in the triple-knockout format at the Canadian Curling Pre-Trials Direct-Entry Event, Team Brothers won five games in a row. That qualified the Halifax-based rink for the Home Hardware Curling Pre-Trials event in Liverpool, N.S., Oct. 26-31.

“(Going to the Olympics) was something you dreamed about as a kid, and to even have that opportunity is special,” Carmody told the SaltWire Network in a phone interview. “We went into the week knowing everyone else is in the same position being it is at the start of the year.

“We tried to learn from each game and not overcomplicate things and move forward. It was a good week.”

Carmody said the team learned a lot from the first two games, and the rink took a nothing-to-lose approach to the must-win situations.

“I don’t know if there was necessarily a single turning point, but I think it was gradual throughout the week,” said Carmody, who was back to work as a clinical dietician at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax early Sept. 27.
