Campbell wins Tankard!
The Charlottetown rink of Robert Campbell, Kevin Champion, Phillip Gorveatt, and Mike Dillon stole a triple in the sixth end, and kept the Andrew Robinson rink scoreless through ends seven, eight and nine, to win the 2003 Labatt Tankard PEI Men's Curling Championship, Sunday afternoon at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. The final score was 7-2, with the Robinson rink, also from the Charlottetown Curling Club, scoring only in the fourth end. The Campbell rink will now compete in the Nokia Brier, March 1-9 at the Halifax Metro Centre.

Andrew Robinson will meet Charlottetown clubmate Robert Campbell in the 3 PM Sunday final of the Labatt Tankard PEI Men's Championships. Robinson stole a triple in the tenth end to seal an 8-4 win over Kyle Stevenson, also from the Charlottetown club, in semi-final action Saturday evening at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. The winner of Sunday's match will advance to the Nokia Brier, March 1-9 in Halifax.
After round-robin play, three rinks advanced to the playoff round. Kyle Stevenson, who finished at 5 and 2, and Andrew Robinson, who had a 4-3 record, met in the semi-final Saturday at 7 PM. with the winner advancing to the final against Robert Campbell, Sunday afternoon at 3. Campbell also had a 5-2 record, but defeated Stevenson in their round-robin encounter to finish in 1st place.
Round-Robin Draw set for "Final 8"
The "Final Eight" portion of The Labatt Tankard Provincial Men's Curling Championships gets underway Wednesday, February 5th at 9 AM, and wraps up on Sunday the 9th, with the final game at 3 PM. All games are at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. Linescores will be available (below) after each draw. The winning rink will advance to the Nokia Brier, March 1-9 at the Halifax Metro Centre.
Final 8 Teams set - defending champion doesn't qualify
32 teams took part in the "Open" portion of the Labatt Tankard Provincial Men's Curling Championships, at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside. As the Open event wrapped up with the final qualifying rounds on Tuesday night, 2000 Tankard winner Andrew Robinson defeated defending champion John Likely 8-3 to grab one of the final qualifying spots for the "Final 8" championships. Four-time champion Ted MacFadyen edged out 1996 and 2001 winner Peter MacDonald 6-5 to grab another qualifier, while Larry Dewar of Montague got by Charlottetown's Eddie MacKenzie 7-6 in an extra end, and Jeff MacCallum edged out Silver Fox clubmate Leo Stewart, also by a 7-6 score, to qualify as well. Previously, Charlottetown's Robert Campbell and Summerside's Mike Gaudet both went undefeated in four games to grab the "A" section qualifiers, while Doug Weeks (Sil. Fox) and Kyle Stevenson (Ch'town) took the "B" qualifying slots.
