Clara Jack rink steals final end to win KFC U13 Ch’ship

The Clara Jack rink from the Cornwall Curling Club were trailing the undefeated Cruz Pineau team from the host Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex 5-2 after 4 ends of the six-end KFC Provincial Under 13 Open (any combination of boys/girls) Curling Championship this afternoon in Summerside, but scored a deuce in end five and stole another two points in the sixth end to win by a 6-5 score. Both teams won their semi-final games by 6-3 scores, with the Pineau rink defeating Grace Bulger from Charlottetown and Cornwall, and the Jack foursome beating Shyanne Gallant and her Silver Fox team. The Jack and Pineau teams have competed in a number of events this season, including the Future Scotties/Tankard, where Pineau went 3-0, the Under 16 championships, and the Saturday morning U16 developmental league in Cornwall.

Other members of the winning Jack team are third Beth Walsh, second Aurora Ulvstal, and lead Darrah MacLeod, with coaches Aleya Quilty and Hanny MacLeod. The runner-up Pineau rink includes third Brock Rochford, second Noah Gallant, and lead Brayden Snow, with coach Shelley MacFadyen.

The Sportsmanship award, as voted on by all the players, and the Coaching award, as voted on by the coaches were presented at the closing ceremonies, with Ella Lenentine, third on the Grace Bulger team from Charlottetown and Cornwall winning the Sportsmanship award, and John Martin, co-coach of the Ella Gavin rink from O’Leary’s Maple Leaf Curling Club winning the Coaching award.

Nine teams took part in the championship.

Pineau and Jack rinks advance to 2:30 KFC Under 13 final

 

Two experienced teams have made it to the 2:30 pm final of the KFC Provincial Under 13 Open (any combination of boys and/or girls) Curling Championship. The Cruz Pineau rink from the host Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex remains undefeated in the event, while the Clara Jack team from the Cornwall Curling Club has only one loss. The teams did not play each other in the partial round robin.

Both rinks competed in the Future Tankard/Scotties event at the Fox, where Pineau went undefeated. They also played in the Under 16, with both teams picking up wins, and both took part in the Under 16 developmental league at Cornwall this year.

Semi-final round set at KFC Under 13 Ch’ships

The 11 am Sunday semi-final round has been determined at the KFC Under 13 Open (any combinations of girls and/or boys) Championship being played at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex in Summerside, with the Cruz Pineau rink from the host club going undefeated with a 4-0 win-loss record to finish first in the partial round-robin and grab the first spot in the semi-finals.

Three teams finished with 3-1 win-loss records and will fill the other three spots, with the Clara Jack foursome from Cornwall finishing second, and taking on the third place team, from the Silver Fox, skipped by Shyanne Gallant, in one semi. Pineau will play the 4th place team, skipped by Grace Bulger, from Charlottetown and Cornwall, in the other. Placement for the playoff positions was be determined first by win/loss, then head to head between tied teams, then cumulative Last Stone Delivery (draw to the button) results, and finally by points.The winners of the semis will advance to the final, at 2:30 pm Sunday. 9 teams took part in the championship.
