MacFadyen and Dolan advance to Seniors finals

MacFadyen to play Bernard for Senior Men’s Final

The Ted MacFadyen rink from the Charlottetown Curling Club defeated the Peter Gallant foursome by a 7-5 score to win the B section final and advance to the 3 pm men’s championship game at the Credit Unions of PEI Provincial Seniors Curling Championship at the Cornwall Curling Club. Defending champion MacFadyen, who has won the Seniors six times, faces 2007 winner Mel Bernard in the final.

Game Story:

End 1: Narrow miss by Gallant left MacFadyen with an open draw for 2;

End 2: A delicate draw against three in the house gave Gallant one;

End 3: A hit and roll out Gallant’s last shot left MacFadyen a draw for 2;

End 4: MacFadyen executed a pick and roll to sit three forcing, Gallant to tap back for 1

End 5: two well executed draws around the corner guard led MacFadyen to score 2, giving him a 6 – 2 lead at the 5th end break;

End 6: Gallant made a basic hit to score 2

End 7: A missed guard attempt by the Gallant team leads to a blank end;

End 8: Gallant threw a pistol of a draw to sit buried on the four foot to score one against three buried MacFadyen rocks;

End 9: MacFadyen makes a tremendous angle raise to score one

End 10: Gallant tries to force the tie with an angled tapback on a partly exposed rock to score two, but only got a partial raise, and counted for only one.

 Dolan scores six points in last two ends to advance to Senior women’s final

Charlottetown’s Kim Dolan, playing in her first Provincial Senior Women’s Championship was trailing 10-6 going into the ninth end in the semi-final against June Moyaert of Montague today at the Cornwall Curling Club, after Moyaert took four points in the seventh. Unplussed, Dolan scored four points of her own in the ninth, and stole a deuce in the tenth for a come from behind 12-10 victory in an exciting game with lots of rocks in action.

Dolan will play two-time Seniors champ Shirley Berry from the host club in the 3 pm final.

Game Story:

 

End 1: A hit and stay by Dolan scored 2;

End 2: Moyaert makes a draw to the button to score 2;

End 3: A delicate corner freeze gave Dolan 2;

End 4: Moyaert executes a clean tap back takeout raise for 2;

End 5: Dolan is facing three blue counters, but makes hit and stay for 1 and a slim 5 -4 lead after 5 ends;

End 6: Moyaert makes a nice draw to score 2;

End 7: Dolan makes a very delicate draw through a narrow port to score and tie the game

End 8: Moyaert scores a four ender through excellent shot execution by all players;

End 9: Two picks on skip rocks created a chance for a narrow angle raise takeout to score 4 for Dolan ;

End 10: Dolan had two rocks buried on the button with guards in front, forcing Moyaert to attempt a very difficult triple raise take out to try to score one. She doesn’t make it, and gives up the deuce

The winning men’s and women’s teams from the 3 pm finals will advance to the Canadian Seniors, March 21-28 at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside.
